My Sister’s Commisioning

Cadet Candice Garnon has graduated from the University of West Florida today May 3, 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, minor in Military Science, and certificate in Human Resources.
Upon enrolling at UWF, she was contracted into ROTC as a four-year Army ROTC scholarship recipient. She attended the United States Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA in between her freshman and sophomore year. She participated on the Ranger Challenge Team for 3 years and served as Captain during her junior year. Cadet Garnon was selected to participate in the Cultural Understanding Language Proficiency program sending her to Paraguay, South America and also Cadet Troop Leadership Training at Fort Bragg, NC. During her junior year, she ranked as Top Female Cadet in the Brigade at both Joint Field Training Exercises. She served as the Cadet Operations Sergeant Major during her senior year and has been recognized as a Distinguished Military Student. She has only scored below a 300 three times in all the PT tests over these 4 years. Cadet Garnon will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps and will report to Fort Wainwright, AK following the Basic Officer Leader Course training at Fort Lee, VA. She will receive the oath of office from LTC James Bradin, United States Army (Retired).
Her bars will be pinned on by her mother Diane Poirier and father Anthony Poirier. CSM Matthew Collis, United States Army (Retired) will receive her first salute.
